The mission of the Bulverde Senior Center DBA Bulverde Spring Branch Activity Center (BSBAC) is to enhance the lives of seniors through programs involving education, exercise, social activities, health and communities service in an environment that provides opportunities for seniors to remain active and self-sufficient.
With membership increasing yearly, awareness of our services and the demand for our services such as Meals on Wheels and Fellowship Meals has increased as well. This program is the core for keeping our seniors healthy with the ability to stay in their own homes as well as providing much needed socialization, fitness, social and educational opportunities for those that can attend services provided at the Center.
BSBAC receives no city, state or federal funding. All support is received through fundraisers and gracious donations from foundations and community members/businesses. We continue fundraising to cover our expenses by reaching out to local businesses that are involved in the community.
The Canada/Kelly Veterans Fund was started in honor of Ben H. Dorcy III (Navy – WW2), Ronnie G. Canada (Army – Vietnam), Ernst A. Schubert (USMC – Korea), and Donald H. Offerman (Air Force – WW2 and Korea), and countless other Comal County veterans of America’s conflicts.
Due to its proximity to many military bases, New Braunfels and Comal County have become home to over ten thousand veterans and their families. With the rapid increase in our population, the number of veterans in our community will continue to grow. We take pride that our community is a great place to live and raise a family, so it should follow that we be the leaders in providing the best services possible to veterans in our community.
The Veterans Fund is a charitable fund of the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation, and its mission is to support and aid Comal County veterans and their family members in need. Funds will be dedicated to provide quality care for veterans’ and their families’ physical and mental well-being and their overall quality of life. The Fund will also support existing veterans’ services and attract new veterans’ services to the New Braunfels area, which will ultimately benefit all veterans in our community.
The fund was created by Cody and Shannon Canada and Ryan and Cate Kelly with the support of many others in our community. Please join us in thanking our veterans and their families who have given so much for all of us.
Comal Emergency Relief Fund
The McKenna Foundation committed $50,000 in seed funding to create the Comal Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) for direct crisis financial and other assistance to New Braunfels and Comal County families affected by COVID-19. Fundraisers hope to raise at least $250,000 to support the entirety of the community efforts through other philanthropic, governmental, church, business and individual donations. A local individual philanthropist has also committed $50,000 to the CERF, motivated by the reality that people need help and a centralized navigation point will ensure everyone has access to the care they need.
The CERF is a fund of the New Braunfels Community Foundation. Additional tax-deductible donations of any amount are needed to reach the community goal of $250,000 and can be made online HERE or by calling Brit King at (830) 606-9536.
Funds raised will be utilized through an inter-agency response effort of local nonprofits that centralizes support and helps families navigate community resources during a time of crisis at a Multi-Agency Response Center (MARC), located at the McKenna Events Center at 801 W. San Antonio Street. Financial support will be based on each family’s individual needs and COVID-19 related job loss, reduced income and any federal or state relief assistance that may be available.
The Comal County Habitat for Humanity, Family Life Center, Salvation Army, New Braunfels Food Bank, CRRC of Canyon Lake and Hill Country MHDD have partnered with McKenna to provide the following resources at the MARC:
• Mental health professionals
• Financial assistance for rent or mortgage payments
• Financial assistance for utility bills
• Direct food assistance
• Assistance acquiring P-SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)
• Spiritual support
More information, including services, eligibility, how to access an appointment and necessary documentation are available at www.comalcountycares.com. Phone assistance with information or eligibility is available at (830) 606-9512.

The Isaac D. Walkup Mental Health Awareness Fund supports mental health awareness and mental health programming in the community.
Isaac Donald Walkup was Born Oct. 8, 1985, in Dallas, Texas. In January of 1990, the Walkup family moved to Bentonville, Ark. where Isaac went to school through his 10th grade year. In 2002, they moved to New Braunfels, Texas where Isaac attended Canyon High School for his junior and senior years. The 2004 graduate received a Summa Cum Laude BS in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University in August of 2009.
Then came Army First Lt. Medical Special Services in March of 2012 followed quickly by an Army-Baylor doctorate in Physical Therapy in August 2013. It was also at Army-Baylor where he received a dual Masters of Hospital Administration and Business Administration. He was proud to serve our country and make a difference at all his assignments that included SAMMC, Kuwait, Johns Hopkins, and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Isaac was laid to rest with full military honors on Jan. 17, 2022, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
Even the most accomplished, decorated person can suffer in silence. No one in Isaac’s life was aware of what he struggled with once he was home, and the uniform came off. The funniest, smartest man in the room was also struggling with a deep pain that he didn’t know how to talk about or to whom. With your help, we are determined to provide support for other men and women like Isaac who need help, but who also need discretion and genuine, unbiased guidance through counseling. Our men and women in uniform not only need the services offered on a civilian level, they have earned it and they deserve everything we can offer. No one should suffer in silence.
The Marty Lindley Foundation was created on September 1st, 2013, in consideration of Marty’s medical prognosis by her MD Anderson surgeons, after her fifth surgery for leiomyosarcoma cancer. To honor God, the foundation encourages the support of the New Braunfels area medical community and the research to develop a cure for leiomyosarcoma cancer. The Marty Lindley Foundation supports the New Braunfels Volunteers In Medicine Clinic and the Adult Sarcoma Research Center at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. The foundation may also seek to inform sarcoma patients of the importance of receiving medical treatment at a cancer center specializing in sarcoma cancer. Additionally, the foundation may contribute to other health and wellness non-profit organizations.
Jeff Lindley, MLF Chair, said, “As a newly established foundation, the MLF has applied to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization. Since June, our many supporters have donated over $65,000. The Foundation is a great responsibility. The NBACF offers the MLF a unique opportunity to expose our foundation to a whole other realm of potential philanthropist/donors. The Board understands the NBACF also helps perpetuate the Mission and Purpose of the MLF, by assuring future monies will be available to donate to our perpetual non-profits, the New Braunfels Volunteers In Medicine Clinic and the Adult Sarcoma Research Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
