Seniors at New Braunfels Christian Academy will be able to apply for a new scholarship in 2017 in memory of Anthony Chalupa, a well-loved father, husband and member of the NBCA family, who passed away from cancer in 2015.
Anthony’s wife, Megg Chalupa, and New Braunfels Christian Academy wanted to create the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund with New Braunfels Area Community Foundation to continue her husband’s legacy of inspiring, teaching and encouraging others, ingenuity, and Christian values.
Anthony Chalupa was born and raised in San Antonio and moved to New Braunfels when he married Megg in 1988. They started their family and had four children (Adam, Graf, Olivia and Cameron) to whom he was a fantastic dad. His interest in computers began when he worked at Interfirst Bank, assisting one of the CEO’s of the bank after the gentleman had been issued a new computer, the first the man had ever dealt with. Anthony spent hours on it and eventually figured out the basics and instructed his boss. This self-taught experience became the training grounds to what would one day be how he would provide for his family through a successful computer consultant business specializing in network security, firewalls and office training and networking.
Anthony became a Christian in 1987 and conducted his life and business in an honest, reliable manner, knowing he was accountable to God.
“He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word,” Megg said.
The Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund will award a minimum of a $250 scholarship to at least one student per year. The scholarship is open to a graduating senior from New Braunfels Christian Academy who:
Is pursuing secondary education opportunities such as a four-year degree at an institute of higher learning; a two-year school or community college; trade school; technical school; specialty school; or military;
Has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher;
Is living in faith and actively serving his/her community;
Exhibits a positive outlook and an exuberance for life;
Exhibits a thirst for learning, knowledge and teaching others;
Demonstrates entrepreneurial, innovative spirit; and
Possesses a good work ethic.
There is not a required field of study, but special consideration will be given to those applicants pursuing an education in technology, IT, or Business.
Applications for the scholarship will be accepted online at www.nbacf.org beginning Jan. 6, 2017.
Through the continued support and monetary gifts of friends, family and the New Braunfels community at large, the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up to extend this same scholarship opportunity in the future to graduating seniors from other local high schools once the fund’s balance reaches a predetermined amount and is able to generate additional funds. Plans are currently being made to conduct an annual funding campaign event by the Chalupa family to continue to increase the principal balance of the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund so it can benefit students throughout the community. Tax-deductible donations can be made directly to the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund by contacting Brit W. King at the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation at (830) 606-9536 or online at www.nbacf.org/donate-to-a-fund/.

The Madeleine Hindman Memorial Fund has been established to help children have the opportunity to Dance, Work or Play while developing the heart, soul and mind.Madeleine-Hindman
Madeleine Camille Hindman died July 7, 2012 after a brain aneurism ruptured just hours before. She was a beautiful, vibrant, intelligent 13-year-old who loved Jesus more than anything in the world. She is missed constantly, and this fund has been established by her parents, Michael and Raquel Hindman, to honor her life and help others.
Madeleine loved to dance, especially ballet, and she loved to see others dance. To honor her memory, this fund hopes to give children the chance to dance when they otherwise could not. Madeleine was not afraid of work. She studied hard, practiced often & was very diligent. If this fund can help a child have an opportunity to work, learn or have a unique experience, we want it to do just that. Madeleine was a joyful girl who loved to play. As a little girl, Madeleine spent hours playing with dolls. As she grew older, Madeleine loved playing the piano, playing at summer camp & playing a part on stage. The Madeleine Hindman Memorial Fund aims to help children be a part of healthy play.
Thank you for remembering Madeleine and supporting this fund as we work to give children of New Braunfels a new chance to Dance, Work or Play while developing the heart, soul, and mind.

The Mustard Seeds Fund was originally a Memorial Scholarship program started by Julie Krug and Mario Luna at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Julie was the Director of Youth Ministry at the parish and Mario was a catechist. They often talked about creating a scholarship program that would reward graduating seniors who stayed active in youth ministry all four years of high school. Both Mario and Julie had suffered loss in their families and wanted to somehow honor graduating seniors, while remembering their loved ones and others who had been part of their parish community. Many people have joined them in their mission, and most of the donors are those who sponsor a scholarship in a deceased loved one’s name.
The Memorial Scholarship Program became a reality in the spring of 2012 and over the years, hundreds of graduating seniors have received scholarships in the names of deceased members of the Sts. Peter and Paul Community. The theme for this scholarship fund is “So that those who made a difference in their lifetime can continue to inspire future generations.” Each one of the people who are remembered in these scholarships made a difference in the lives of their loved ones, friends, co-workers, and even complete strangers. Our hope is that our graduating seniors, inspired by those who have gone before them, live out their legacy of faith, humility, joy and determination.

The New Braunfels Area Car Club (NBACC) was organized in late 1991 after car enthusiasts Barney Calvert and Bennie Mills were discussing the need for a local car club. The name, New Braunfels Area Car Club, was chosen in an effort to include as many as possible from the surrounding communities.
The purpose of the club was, and is, to encourage the preservation and enjoyment of cars 20 years old or older and to be able to display these cars in the area when the opportunity presents itself.
The idea of having a swap meet soon came about, and NBACC has been hosting annual swap meets since 1993. This annual swap meet has grown to one of the largest in the country and has participants from many states. The proceeds of this event are used to fund scholarships for area students who are pursuing education in automobile-related professions.
If you have an interest in assisting area youth in pursuing education opportunities in the automotive industry, please consider donating.

The library became a department of the City of New Braunfels in 1971, offering free library service to residents within the city limits. Raquel Brianna Yarovinsky-Lee passed away on Nov. 24, 2017. Raquel’s soul shined so bright anyone around her was immersed by her warm and loving presence. Raquel loved the uniqueness of a person and found the most intimate way to celebrate moments of friendship and life. Following her Canyon High School graduation (Class of 2009), Raquel traveled the world with YWAM mission trips to share her love for Jesus Christ. After traveling for a year, Raquel attend St. Philip’s College and Texas State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications (Class of 2014). To know true love and acceptance was to know Raquel.
From an early age, Raquel, navigated life with a speech impediment but that never stopped her from being the truest version of herself. Raquel managed to connect herself to people in such a way that was so deeply personal that others could feel safe and loved. Having her in your life meant that she allowed you to be yourself – judgement free. You could find Raquel singing at the top of her lungs with you with the windows down in the car. You could find her spontaneously throwing a dance party in the middle of the day. You could find her sharing art with you as she once said, “Make something beautiful and release it.”
Thank you for remembering Raquel and supporting this fund as we work to give students of Canyon High School a chance to pursue their dream. We hope that this scholarship will pave the way for others to accept themselves while making a positive change in their community. The opportunity to run or walk is a true privilege. Ryan Bielke was an avid outdoorsman who valued the chance to exercise daily. Ryan completed multiple half-marathons, half-iron man, and three Texas Water Safaris. He found great joy on the riverbanks of the Guadalupe River fly-fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, tying flies, and hiking. He was a jack of all trades from woodworking, crocheting, kneeboarding and hunting. Even when he was training and pushing his own body to its limit, Ryan made time to encourage others. In February 2019, Ryan was diagnosed with a rare cancer – Cholangiocarcinoma (gallbladder cancer). No one was surprised about his demeanor as he never stopped fighting or questioned God’s plan. He went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2019.

The Will Brunson Memorial Scholarship has been established to assist graduating student athletes from New Braunfels High School who are continuing their education while playing a sport at a two or four-year institution. Applicants should demonstrate financial need, dedication, teamwork, participation in social and civic endeavors, and a strong work ethic.
Will Brunson of New Braunfels, TX passed away November 23, 2019, from a heart attack while hiking in Big Bend National Park with friends. Both of Will’s children, Travis and Ella, attended New Braunfels High School and played sports. At the time of his passing, Will was the South Texas Regional Scout for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Will grew up in Desoto, TX, playing baseball and basketball. After high school, he played baseball for Eastfield Junior College and Southwest Texas State (Texas State) where he met his wife Dana Huneycutt. Will played many years of minor league baseball with the Reds, Dodgers, Tigers, A’s, and Angels and also spent some time in the Big Leagues with the Dodgers and Tigers.
Will enjoyed coaching youth baseball, hunting, fishing, golf, and camping. His most fulfilling past-time was seeing kids succeed in athletics and being the Number One fan of Dana, Travis, and Ella. Will was a friend to many and enriched the lives of everyone he met.
