Downtown Rotary

Downtown Rotary offers free admission– virtually – for everyone!

The annual Wild Game Dinner, the Downtown Rotary Club of New Braunfels’ biggest fundraiser benefiting local nonprofits and charities, usually cannot accommodate everyone who wants to attend.   But this year, everyone can attend the event . . . for free!

Recognizing the need to support our community during these COVID-19 times, the event is going virtual for the first time in its 30-year history. Beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 17, participants can sign in to a nine-day online event via their phone or mobile device.

“We had three options this year,” said Brit W. King, 2020 club president, “1. We could host the dinner, but we worried about the safety of the participants; 2. We could cancel and do absolutely nothing to help local nonprofits; or 3. We could host the event online. Two of those three were bad options for people in need in New Braunfels”

The nine-day event will include nine hunting packages (African Safari and Texas hunts, with a combined value of over $75,000); numerous gun auctions and drawings; an assortment of hunting and collecting items; and even a package that offers two days of brush clearing with a bulldozer!

“In addition to participating in the online event, you will also be able to view videos from many of the different local nonprofits and charities that have been supported by the Downtown Rotary Club and donate to them directly through this virtual event,” King said. “Now, more than ever, our local nonprofits need our help so they can continue to operate and provide the services that are crucial to our community.”

The Downtown Rotary Club of New Braunfels was founded in 1982 and currently has 74 members. The club has raised and distributed more than 6 million dollars during the past 38 years to nonprofits and charities that support those in need in our area. Fundraising efforts have benefited Big Brothers, Big Sisters; The Salvation Army; SJRC Texas; Children’s Advocacy Center; NB Food Bank; SOS Food Bank; and Meals on Wheels, just to name a few.

The online event begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 and continues through 8 p.m. Sept. 26. To register and view the online event and support local nonprofits and charities, participants can text “WGD20 First name last name” to: 234-249-2064. Registrants will be able to access every prize drawing, auction item and support video for the entire nine days!
