ANTHONY CHALUPA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Seniors at New Braunfels Christian Academy will be able to apply for a new scholarship in 2017 in memory of Anthony Chalupa, a well-loved father, husband and member of the NBCA family, who passed away from cancer in 2015.

Anthony’s wife, Megg Chalupa, and New Braunfels Christian Academy wanted to create the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund with New Braunfels Area Community Foundation to continue her husband’s legacy of inspiring, teaching and encouraging others, ingenuity, and Christian values.

Anthony Chalupa was born and raised in San Antonio and moved to New Braunfels when he married Megg in 1988. They started their family and had four children (Adam, Graf, Olivia and Cameron) to whom he was a fantastic dad. His interest in computers began when he worked at Interfirst Bank, assisting one of the CEO’s of the bank after the gentleman had been issued a new computer, the first the man had ever dealt with. Anthony spent hours on it and eventually figured out the basics and instructed his boss. This self-taught experience became the training grounds to what would one day be how he would provide for his family through a successful computer consultant business specializing in network security, firewalls and office training and networking.

Anthony became a Christian in 1987 and conducted his life and business in an honest, reliable manner, knowing he was accountable to God.

“He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word,” Megg said.

The Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund will award a minimum of a $250 scholarship to at least one student per year. The scholarship is open to a graduating senior from New Braunfels Christian Academy who:

Is pursuing secondary education opportunities such as a four-year degree at an institute of higher learning; a two-year school or community college; trade school; technical school; specialty school; or military;

Has a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher;

Is living in faith and actively serving his/her community;

Exhibits a positive outlook and an exuberance for life;

Exhibits a thirst for learning, knowledge and teaching others;

Demonstrates entrepreneurial, innovative spirit; and

Possesses a good work ethic.

There is not a required field of study, but special consideration will be given to those applicants pursuing an education in technology, IT, or Business.

Applications for the scholarship will be accepted online at www.nbacf.org beginning Jan. 6, 2017.

Through the continued support and monetary gifts of friends, family and the New Braunfels community at large, the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund has been set up to extend this same scholarship opportunity in the future to graduating seniors from other local high schools once the fund’s balance reaches a predetermined amount and is able to generate additional funds. Plans are currently being made to conduct an annual funding campaign event by the Chalupa family to continue to increase the principal balance of the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund so it can benefit students throughout the community. Tax-deductible donations can be made directly to the Anthony Chalupa Memorial Scholarship Fund by contacting Brit W. King at the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation at (830) 606-9536 or online at www.nbacf.org/donate-to-a-fund/.
