Isaac D. Walkup Mental Health Awareness Fund

The Isaac D. Walkup Mental Health Awareness Fund supports mental health awareness and mental health programming in the community.

Isaac Donald Walkup was Born Oct. 8, 1985, in Dallas, Texas. In January of 1990, the Walkup family moved to Bentonville, Ark. where Isaac went to school through his 10th grade year. In 2002, they moved to New Braunfels, Texas where Isaac attended Canyon High School for his junior and senior years. The 2004 graduate received a Summa Cum Laude BS in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University in August of 2009.

Then came Army First Lt. Medical Special Services in March of 2012 followed quickly by an Army-Baylor doctorate in Physical Therapy in August 2013. It was also at Army-Baylor where he received a dual Masters of Hospital Administration and Business Administration. He was proud to serve our country and make a difference at all his assignments that included SAMMC, Kuwait, Johns Hopkins, and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Isaac was laid to rest with full military honors on Jan. 17, 2022, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

Even the most accomplished, decorated person can suffer in silence. No one in Isaac’s life was aware of what he struggled with once he was home, and the uniform came off. The funniest, smartest man in the room was also struggling with a deep pain that he didn’t know how to talk about or to whom. With your help, we are determined to provide support for other men and women like Isaac who need help, but who also need discretion and genuine, unbiased guidance through counseling. Our men and women in uniform not only need the services offered on a civilian level, they have earned it and they deserve everything we can offer. No one should suffer in silence.
