United Way of Comal County Impact Fund

The Board of Directors of United Way of Comal County is thrilled to announce it will create a permanent fund at the New Braunfels Community Foundation in 2025!

In 1945 the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce created the Comal County Community Impact Fund.

In 1991, the Fund joined the global family of United Way continuing its work as United Way of Comal County.

For over 80 years community members have donated millions of dollars to UWCC through payroll deductions, individual and corporate donations, and special events.  This funding enables United Way of Comal County to award millions to vetted local nonprofits providing services for crisis intervention, medical care, hunger, end-of-life support, addiction recovery, homelessness, child abuse prevention, mental health counseling, adults with disabilities, and more.

Respected and deeply rooted in Comal County, UWCC is poised to extend the commitment of our early founders and ensure the longevity of our organization for generations to come.

With $200,000.00 already committed, we are seeking additional donors to grow the account and make a positive impact on Comal County.

Your support will be life-changing for those in need.

Rebuild Kerrville

Local Contractors
Helping Local Residents.

After the devastating July 4th floods, Kerrville Design Build is partnering with local vendors, donors, and tradespeople to help Kerrville families rebuild their homes—one room at a time.

This is our home too. We’re local builders, contractors, and tradespeople—many of whom were affected by the flood. This effort supports both the families who need help and the skilled workers who rely on steady, fair-paying work to recover and rebuild.

With donated materials and a compassionate, budget-conscious design team, we’re providing a path forward for flood-impacted homeowners. We’ll stretch available donations as far as possible and work closely with you to rebuild within your budget—without sacrificing quality or care.

Zunker Family Foundation

Dear Friends, Family and Community members,

We are launching the Zunker Family Foundation dedicated to the legacy of Paula, Reece, Lyle and Holland Zunker who tragically perished during the 4th of July floods in Hunt, TX. Our goal, like theirs was, is to perpetually impact those causes near and dear to the Zunker’s heart, with a focus on the Kerrville area that meant so much to them.

Your support—whether through donations, sharing this message, or simply keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers—means the world. Every contribution helps us build something meaningful and lasting in their name.

With Gratitude,

Zunker Family Foundation

Preserving New Braunfels Fund

The mission of the Preserving New Braunfels Fund is to save historic New Braunfels.

Concerned citizens in the community saw the need to come to the aid of historic buildings whose owners could not afford to save those buildings.

One of the first projects is to use funds to help move one of the oldest homes in the county to Heritage Village/Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture. The Braschler House, at 240 Kowald Lane, was built circa 1854 by the Rev. Henry Braschler who served the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Martin’s congregation from 1852 to 1857.

The caliche and cedar fachwerk home will be moved from its current location to Heritage Village.

The fund creators hope that through their partnerships with other preservation nonprofits and by spreading the word, they can save more historic structures, one building at a time.

At its new location, The Braschler House will serve as a gallery for the new Rahe estate gift of Texas handmade furniture.

ALL-COMMUNITY FUND

The All-Community Fund is a fund that will provide support to the greater New Braunfels community in perpetuity. The All-Community Fund exists to ensure that the NBACF can respond quickly when issues arise, such as providing assistance during flooding. This fund allows the board of directors the flexibility to fund needs as they occur.

CLIFF DRYSDALE FOUNDATION FUND

Cliff Drysdale Tennis launched The Cliff Drysdale Foundation, a donor-advised fund managed by New Braunfels Area Community Foundation, in April 2015. Don Henderson, CEO and Kimberly Arena, VP of Sales and Marketing of Cliff Drysdale Tennis, will advise the fund, with a mission of providing support through the game of tennis to organizations and programs that enhance the lives and well-being of others.

“We are thrilled for the launch the Cliff Drysdale Foundation,” stated Arena. “Since the inception of Cliff Drysdale Tennis, we have had the honor and privilege to be a part of so many successful philanthropic endeavors which have raised over a million dollars for charitable organizations of all sizes and scopes. We look forward to continuing this tradition in Cliff’s name for generations to come with targeted efforts through tennis to better the lives of others.”

The Foundation is dedicated to raising funds through the tennis endeavors of Cliff Drysdale Tennis and their partners; providing grants for improving the quality of life of children and adults, people with disabilities, and others with special needs through tennis; and education programs and events that are based on health, fitness, character-building, and self-improvement.

In 2015, the Cliff Drysdale Foundation was proud to support the following organizations:

  • JDRF through the Priyanka Cup Pro Am Weekend at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami.
  • Aceing Autism, Tennis Thanks the Troops and LOVE (Leaving Out Violence Everywhere) through the Central Texas Women’s Pro Challenge.

COMAL LAND CONSERVATION FUND

Comal Conservation’s – Comal Land Conservation Fund

The Comal Conservation  was formed in 2018 by a group of concerned local citizens who saw the need to raise awareness about the urgency of preserving land in our fast-growing county while there is still land to preserve. Preserving land, water, and wildlife in Comal County benefits our citizens, our community, and our economy as well as the natural world that supports us.

Comal Conservation created the Comal Land Conservation Fund in 2020 to provide financial assistance for projects dedicated to preserving open spaces in Comal County. Among the projects eligible is financial assistance to landowners to establish a conservation easement through a contract with a Land Trust entity. Conservation easements allow landowners to retain ownership and use of their land while agreeing to keep the land in its existing natural state by selling or donating the land’s development rights to the Land Trust entity. Financial assistance from the Fund to cover associated contract costs might make the difference between a landowner selling to a developer versus saving the farm or ranch in perpetuity. The Fund may also be used for matching funds for grants or loans from state, federal, and private programs designed to help communities protect water resources, wildlife or, as in most cases, both. These and a variety of other options are ways the Fund can help keep land in its natural state.

Preserving natural land and open space benefits the well-being of all of us in Comal County. Donations to the Fund will allow Nature to continue doing what it does for us—cleaning the air, producing oxygen, filtering rainwater, providing wildlife habitat, giving people a place to refresh and rejuvenate, and ensuring that our beautiful Hill Country landscape and rural charm continue to be the hallmarks of Comal County—if we do our part to protect what we’ve been given.

First Footing (NB Homeless) Shelter

NB Housing Partners was created in December 2013 by a group of people from New Braunfels who want our city to be a place where every family is able to count on something most families take for granted – a bed. Since its inception, the board has primarily focused on empowering local non-profit agencies to address the disparity between income levels and housing costs, expand the availability of affordable housing, and mitigate barriers that burden individuals or families that are currently or at risk of becoming homeless. As part of this effort, the nonprofit has chosen to develop and implement a non-congregate emergency shelter and a coordinated entry process for individuals and families who are currently or at risk of homelessness.

The First Footing shelter operated by NB Housing Partners offers 24-hour shelter for individuals who have no immediate safe place to sleep. In addition to providing safe shelter and meals, the shelter provides comprehensive case management to help individuals get housed as quickly as possible, with support and guidance to address risk factors that may impede their ability to stay housed. The program’s case managers will also continue to assist individuals after becoming housed to ensure they can continue their path toward safety and self- sustainability.

For information about the shelter, call NB Housing Partners at 830-606-9526.
